The team behind Sydney’s Bistrot 916 have confirmed the Potts Point neo-bistro is in its final months after relocation efforts have come up short.
Co-Owners Andrew Pepperell, Andy Tyson, and Michael Clift spent the last few months attempting to lock in an alternate location before coming to the conclusion that the venue just can’t be replicated elsewhere.
“We’ve searched for a space appropriate to move our beloved restaurant but nothing fits with the same vibe or character as the original,” says Tyson. “I feel we’ve decided that we can’t transplant it, and we won’t try.”
News broke back in May confirming the three-year-old restaurant would be no more due to upcoming demolition and redevelopment plans.
The Challis Avenue bistro was the first business from Pepperell, Clift, and Tyson, who have gone on to open Pellegrino 2000 and Clam Bar.
The trio are also gearing up to launch new venue Neptune’s Grotto underneath Clam Bar on Bridge Street, which will be up and running in the coming months.
“We close this chapter with a mix of pride and nostalgia,” says Clift. “Bistrot was our fortress during the COVID siege, our long lunch on a summer’s day, and our listening bar hideaway during winter. We’ll miss our little spot on Challis.”
The restaurant has confirmed its final day of service will be Sunday 3 November, with new and return guests encouraged to lock in a booking now to experience 916’s signature cuisine for the last time – think duck frites, snail pasta, double cheeseburgers, and a grower champagne-heavy wine list.
