Blackbird Bar and Grill has been announced as the winner of the Best Overall Queensland Wine List at the 2017 Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA) and Royal Queensland Wine Show (RQWS) Wine List Awards.

The Eagle Street restaurant also received the awards for Extensive Restaurant Wine List and Restaurant/Caterer in a Licensed Venue Wine List. Grandchester’s Spicers Hiddenvale was named as the winner of the Small/Comprehensive Restaurant Wine List Award.

The announcement of the awards’ winners follows a week-long judging process where an expert panel, including chief judge David Bicknell, sampled 1,600 wines from around Australia.

Anthony Donaldson, head chef at Blackbird Bar and Grill, said that he was delighted with the awards and recognition that Blackbird Bar and Grill had received and praised his team’s efforts.

“We are honoured to have received this year’s award for Queensland’s best overall wine list and would like to extend our thanks to the Royal Queensland Wine Show and Restaurant & Catering Australia for helping to organise this event.

“I am immensely proud of my team’s efforts, including our brilliant chefs, managers, sommeliers and waiters which all goes towards providing our diners with the best possible experience.

“At Blackbird Bar and Grill, we have made a deliberate choice to focus on providing high-quality, locally produced wines to complement our extensive range of meals which we believe is a core aspect of our product offering.
