Brisbane cooking school Golden Pig has announced it will launch a new 80-seat pan Asian restaurant and bar within the Newstead site.
Golden Pig owner and chef Katrina Ryan will draw on her experience working for Neil Perry and at Spirit House on the Sunshine Coast to introduce the concept.
“I think Asian cuisine and ingredients are a beautiful match with our subtropical climate,” she says.
The menu takes inspiration from Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese and Japanese cuisines and offers small, medium and large classic dishes, that are designed for sharing. Chef Sarah Hockings will be heading up the kitchen team.
Signature dishes include the half Sichuan spiced duck with mandarin, miso and black vinegar and betel leaf with tea smoked Ora king salmon with fresh coconut, tamarind and grape.
The industrial space has been fitted out with a central open kitchen, raw concrete flooring and large scale metal framed windows.
The newly installed bar is positioned near the entrance and provides a relaxed setting for Asian-inspired cocktails, crafted by bar manager Cameron Silk, along with a small bites menu, served daily from 5pm. A concise wine list is being introduced alongside an extensive craft beer menu.
The Golden Pig Cooking School will continue to operate on the days the restaurant is closed, Sundays and Mondays, under the direction of Ryan and guest chefs.
