A senior manager at Daniel San restaurant in Manly has admitted to stealing $50,000 from the business over a six-month period.
Alberto D’Agostino failed to record cash sales and would instead hit the ‘no sale’ key and pocket the money.
When a manager confronted the 33-year-old over the lack of sales during his shifts, D’Agostino admitted he had been stealing and took his boss to his apartment where he had $38,500 stuffed inside a bum bag.
D’Agostino initially said the money was for a sick family member in Italy, but it was later found in the Manly Local Court that no money had been sent overseas.
He has since paid back the money, but was sentenced to a 10-month suspended jail term on Wednesday and must complete 100 hours of community service.
