DoorDash has announced it is halving commissions for local restaurants until the end of May.
Venues in Melbourne and Sydney with less than five locations will be able to take advantage of the offer, which should provide some relief in the current climate.
“By providing over 80% of restaurants on the DoorDash platform in Australia with a 50% commission reduction, we’re focusing this most recent relief effort on those most vulnerable – local businesses,” said Thomas Stephens, General Manager of DoorDash Australia.
The 50% offer has been rolled out in conjunction with the platform’s other COVID-19 measures including waiving delivery fees for restaurant partners and the removal of fees on pickup orders.
Despite being a relatively new player in the Australian market, DoorDash is the first platform to alter commission fees on delivery so far.
There have been growing calls from the industry for delivery services to meet operators in the middle during a time where cafe and restaurant sales have dropped and delivery sales have surged.
