Entries open for women’s bartender competition

Perth-based not-for-profit Mix Haus has partnered with Rhubi to present a nation-wide women’s bartender competition.

To enter, bartenders must make a drink using Rhubi as the main ingredient, share the cocktail on socials and offer it in-venue. Four finalists will be selected in November and flown to Sydney for an all-women bartender takeover of women-run Burrow Bar to determine the winner.

Mix Haus is an independent organisation that aims to upskill and increase the representation of women and non-binary people in the hospitality industry.

“It’s so crucial that brands support diversity in our industry,” says Shirley Yeung, Mix Haus’s co-founder. “We have been working with Rhubi on this campaign since last year, and these kinds of initiatives are more important now than ever.

“We chose to work with Rhubi as it’s a female-run brand, and we’re excited to create this new platform to highlight the amazing and talented women in our industry. If we can do that alongside raising money for on-the-ground activity, then that ultimately achieves our goals.”

The live final will raise money for Mix Haus projects, including training, workshops, and hospitality industry pathways for women.

“This year we’re even more excited to use this platform to support women in hospitality and open up those dialogues about what it means to be female and working in this industry.” says Rhubi Director Linn Philips-Johansson.

Founded and made in Australia, Rhubi is inspired by French Mistelle and uses the French national icon La Semeuse on the bottle’s cap. The female figure is a symbol of freedom and the ‘sower of new ideas’.

Entries close 31 October and finalists will be chosen in the first week of November, for the 25 November final.
