Melbourne chef George Calombaris has confirmed he will close his fine dining restaurant The Press Club in Melbourne after 12 years in business.
Calombaris broke the news on Instagram and was emotional about the decision to shutter the venue. “These will be the hardest words I have to write. I am emotional. I can’t stop crying but I know good things have to come to an end. The Press Club was a dream to put Hellenic ideas on the map.”
Although The Press Club as diners know it will close on 29 June, Calombaris confirmed the team will launch a new project in its place. “It’s time for a new chapter and to write a whole new book,” he said. “We will serve our final menu before we enter an exciting phase of reinvention.”
A series of events will be held over the coming months to celebrate signature dishes and collaborate with guest chefs.
No word on what the new venue will look like, but Calombaris told Good Food he wants to “break it to be better.” The new concept is set to launch around July.
