After 30 years of operation, Gold Coast Japanese restaurant Yamagen, will reopen on 28 July following a complete redesign by Nic Graham. The venue, which reinvents traditional Japanese izakaya style dining, will feature smoking kushiyaki grills and a downtown Tokyo vibe.
Spanning three unique spaces — the bar, table-seki and sushi counter — Yamagen is helmed by chefs Yoshihiro Yamazaki, Mitsuo Yoshino, Kei Sato and Shintaro Kosugi.
The restaurant’s main dining area, the table-seki, will seat up to 76 guests, serving dishes such as sashimi tacos and Master Kobe Wagyu MS9+ from the kushiyaki grill.
The 15-seat sushi counter provides a more exclusive dining space. Guests can experience authentic omakase — a selection of market fresh sashimi and sushi, as well as share plates like the Yellowfin tuna tartare, chosen by the chef.
The drinks list offers craft beers, sake, Japanese whiskies and cocktails like the utsumi sour with Tanqueray gin, peach liqueur, peach and lemon and the dragon ball with shochu, pomegranate liqueur, yuzu, lime and eggwhite.
Yamagen will be open for dinner Tuesday–Sunday from 5pm.
