Ethos Eat Drink, which offered a degustation menu that changed daily, has closed its doors for good.
Located on Hobart’s Elizabeth Street, the restaurant closed on Wednesday 7 September, after launching in 2011.
The restaurant, which shone a light on local producers, was highly regarded in the industry and amongst diners, being named the state’s Hottest Restaurant in the Weekend Australian Magazine’s 50 Hot Restaurants in Australia guide.
The Mercury food writer Graeme Phillips said the closure was a shame for the restaurant industry.
“Iain (Todd, chef at Ethos) is one of the most talented chefs we have and has long championed local producers and their products,” Phillips said.
He said Tasmania’s small population and a growth in the number of new restaurants is contributing to some of the older venues being ‘squeezed out’.
“Now Ethos has very sadly gone and my heart goes out to Iain, his staff and suppliers,” he said.
