Minimal-intervention winery Harkham is opening a restaurant on its iconic grounds this Thursday.
Harkham was one of the first producers in the Hunter Valley to make natural and orange wines, with its new dining experience designed to complement the lo-fi offering.
“Not long ago, we identified a gap in the market for a casual offering
where people can come to enjoy simple food paired beautifully with a glass of Hunter Valley Semillon or Shiraz rather than locking into a fine-dining experience with a two-course minimum.” says Owner and Winemaker Richie Harkham.
“For years I have dreamed and planned for this new restaurant and I am so excited to see it finally coming to life.”
Former Cutler & Co talent Shaun Nash has taken on the head chef role, with Michelin-trained Robin Clough appointed as sous chef.
The pair have designed a menu full of dishes that work with different Harkham wines.
“I am really excited about some of the dishes we have on there which we have ensured pair beautifully with Harkham’s wines,” says Nash.
“A classic pairing is the Nolan beef skirt with our Aziza Shiraz which sees rich, beefy flavour and tender texture meet Aziza Shiraz’s bold, fruity, and spicy profile.”
Wines from neighbouring producers as well as from France feature on the wine menu, with beer, Clase Azul tequila, Dom Perignon, and a cocktail list by Byron Woolfrey (co-founder, Trolley’d) rounding out the beverage offering.
The restaurant opens its doors on 18 July and will operate 12-5pm on Thursdays; 12-11pm on Fridays; 8am-11pm on Saturdays; and 8am-6pm on Sundays.
