Available on-tap exclusively at James Squire Brewhouses from 1 October, and nationwide in selected venues from 26 October, James Squire has created its first summer ale, called The Swindler.
Head Brewer at Malt Shovel Brewery, Chris Sheehan said “The Swindler is a crisp and refreshing ale which pairs a firm malt body with a cunning blend of Calypso and El dorado hops, dry hopped for a distinctive aroma with notes of pear and watermelon. Due to their rarity we had to virtually swindle the hops ourselves, but at 4.2 percent ABV it’s an ale worth stealing some time for.”
The beer was developed in response to the growing popularity of summer ales, which now account for 3.1 percent of craft volume in Australia.
“The Summer Ale is a relatively new beer style that we were excited to put a James Squire twist on. Technically a variety of Pale Ale, but actually closer to a golden ale in style, The Swindler is low on bitterness, yet high on flavour and aroma as a result of the very rare hops we have chosen. By brewing The Swindler with added touch of wheat we achieve very distinctive yet refreshing beer – a true brew for the Aussie summer,” said Sheehan.
