The Royal Queensland Wine Show (RQWS) Awards held on Friday 7 July will showcase Queensland restaurants that excel in championing local wines.
Judging for the RQWS concluded on 29 June, and involved an expert panel of 25 judges, including Chief Judge David Bicknell, tasting their way through 1,600 wines.
The public will be given a chance to sample the winning wines at the Grape Grazing By Night event to be held following the conclusion of the awards.
Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA) CEO John Hart said working with the RQWS is a great opportunity to showcase the best of what the Australian wine industry has to offer while acknowledging the winners of the R&CA QLD Wine List Awards.
“The R&CA Queensland Wine List Awards is in its second year and we are pleased to be partnering with RQWS to recognise restaurants that excel in wine list development,” said Hart.
“The importance of showcasing Australian wines can be demonstrated by R&CA’s 2017 Industry Benchmarking Report which showed that 85 percent of businesses believed that this was either important or very important.
“What’s more is that over 40 per cent of restaurants surveyed identified the ability to source wine from their local region as the biggest contributing factor in determining whether they featured Australian wines on their menu.”
The RQWS Awards & R&CA QLD Wine List Awards will be announced at 9.30am in the Upper Exhibition Building of Brisbane Showgrounds on Friday 7 July.
