La Valle wine bar and bottle shop has opened on Alfred Street in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley. Dedicated to the Italian mantra “il vino è vivo“, the new opening is the latest from the La Costa collective, which opened two more bars in the Valley in December.
The venue, which launched on 15 January, stock more than 200 wines for dine-in or takeaway with bottles from producers such as Payten & Jones and Athletes of Wine. There’s also exclusive allocations of the likes of Gabriele Scaglione’s Barbera d’Alba, which produced a quick drive from owner Stefano de Blasi’s hometown.
“It’s pretty special for me to be able to bring Gabriele’s wine to Brisbane and give our guests at La Valle a true taste of the hills and valleys of Piedmont,” says de Blasi.
A wine club will offer in-venue tastings and private functions, online orders for kerbside pickup or delivery, as well as rewards including invitations and exclusive releases. Discounts will be on the cards for regulars across the group’s two other venues: La Costa restaurant and bar and Cielo rooftop bar. A range of beers, ciders, vermouths and pre-batched cocktails are also being poured.
The simple food menu focuses on pairing snacks — think cheese, charcuterie and tinned seafood, as well as street-style focaccias loaded with mortadella, basil pesto, grilled zucchini and salty pecorino.
“We loved bringing light, colour and exceptional cocktails to La Costa and Cielo, so La Valle is a perfect contrast with its darker interior and shelves packed with top quality wines,” says de Blasi.
La Valle is open from 5 pm on Wednesdays, from midday until 4 pm and again from 5 pm Thursday–Saturday.
