Growing restaurant brand Light Years is heading to Perth for the first time, with its latest eatery to join Arcade Agency’s portfolio of Light Years restaurants located in Byron Bay, Noosa, Newcastle, and Burleigh Heads.
Co-Owners Kim Stephen, James Sutherland and Robbie Oijvall have snapped up a heritage-listed building on William Street, which is part of a Cbus Property precinct. The team identified a gap in the market for the eatery as well as window to contribute to the buzzing Perth dining scene. “The development and future plans for the CBD are compelling and we really wanting Light Years to be a part of this as we look to expand the brand,” says Sutherland, who also plans to grow the group’s other hospitality brands Moonlight and The Smoking Camel on a national level.
The Perth location will feature Light Years’ signature dishes as well as new additions developed by Culinary Director Oijvall. Guests can look forward to kingfish ceviche with coconut, chilli, and Makrut lime; miso corn ribs; lobster dumplings; and steak tartare with gochujang, pickled pear, and umami cream.
WA makers will take pride of place on the wine program, which has been curated by Logan Bendeich, who has also selected drops that complement the Asian flavour profiles throughout the menu.
In terms of the fit-out, it’s familiar but different, with the Perth space set to take influences from the Byron location. “As both of our first forays into WA, we wanted to be respectful of the location and the heritage building,” said Studio Plenty’s Will Rathgeber and designer Sarah Ellison. “Everything is custom-designed, from the furniture to the feature lighting.”
Light Years Perth is slated to launch in autumn this year, with an official opening date to come.
