Food culture and trends continue to evolve, and in today’s hugely competitive foodservice industry, staying up-to-date on diner preferences is essential.
In 2013, the United Nations declared 2016 the official Year of the Pulse. As such, these grains are starting to infiltrate our menus, but how many of us actually know where these nutritious and delectable meal additions come from?
If you’ve ever pondered this or wanted to learn more about how you can source them and what they can contribute to your venue’s food offering, then it’s worth getting in touch with the team from Straight To The Source.
Led by respected industry professionals Tawnya Bahr and Lucy Allon, Straight To The Source conducts industry-specific tours to help both back- and front-of-house members learn more about the people and processes that keep the hospitality industry buzzing.
Straight To The Source connects tour groups with providores that are usually unavailable to the public and who can share valuable insights into Australia’s unique ability to produce some of the world’s best ingredients.
Next on the calendar is a trip to the Grampians in Victoria, to explore one of Australia’s leading pulse and grain heartlands, the Wimmera, as well as visit some award winning producers in the surrounding Grampians region. The two day, one night experience (April 11 and 12) will also involve stops at Greenvale Farm, Mount Zero Pink Salt Harvest and one of Australia’s most exemplary kitchen gardens – Royal Mail Hotel Dunkeld.
The Straight To The Source team has just concluded a tour to NSW’s Southern Tablelands which included a visit to the ALTO olives farm, Crookwell Potatoes and Moorlands Biodynamic lamb farm. Other upcoming industry tours include a truffle hunt in Tarago, NSW, and a two day visit to the Western Eyre Peninsula, South Australia.
If you’re truly passionate about Australia’s boutique food producers, want to expand your food knowledge and understanding of the ‘paddock to plate’ process, then Straight To The Source’s Grampians tour is an event you cannot miss.
Hospitality Magazine and Straight To The Source have teamed up to offer one lucky reader the chance to win a ticket to the upcoming Grampians tour. All you need to do is click on the following link: http://www.tawnyabahr.com/win-grampians/ and tell us in 25 words or less why you’d like to join the tour.
