Sydney’s Maybe Sammy is the highest-ranking Australian bar on the 2022 edition of The World’s 50 Best Bars list.
It marks the fourth consecutive year the high-glam venue has come out on top, with the bar snagging the no.29 spot.
The top 50 bars were announced at an awards ceremony held in Barcelona earlier in the week, with some of the Maybe Sammy team celebrating the big win in person.
“When we opened Maybe Sammy in 2019, we never would have dreamed we’d be one of the World’s 50 Best bars four years in a row, let alone the best bar in Australasia four years in a row,” says Co-Founder Stefano Catino.
“We’re so grateful the bar and our team continues to be recognised for the brilliant work they do. It’s really very special to be among the community we love.”
Fellow CBD bar Cantina OK! has also been recognised on the global stage, taking out the no.41 position. The pocket-sized venue was closed on Wednesday evening so the team could celebrate the achievement.
Barcelona’s Paradiso was named the no.1 bar in the world, with the top five rounded out by Tayer + Elementary in London; Sips in Barcelona, Licoreria Limantour in Mexico City and Little Red Door in Paris.
“The fact that this is the first time we have crowned a bar outside New York or London as The World’s Best Bar is a testament to the huge achievements of Giacomo, Margarita and their team,” says Mark Sansom, content director of The World’s 50 Best Bars.
“Since being named One To Watch in 2017 a year after opening, Paradiso has been a firm fixture of the 50 Best list, enhancing its ranking year after year.”
