Sydney’s Cruise Bar has landed itself in hot water after choosing to decorate its relaunch party with some interesting table top fixtures.
The party featured two naked models that were used as fruit platters as they lay on a table inside the venue. Guests took to social media to express their views on the display with writer Sandra Ecker referring to the stunt as “classic misogyny” via Twitter.
Scantily clad male models were also a feature of the evening.
Speaking with The Daily Mail, women’s advocate Melinda Tankard-Reist said she hopes people boycott the venue for objectifying women.
“It is part of the ongoing objectification of women to use them as serving trays and just part of the buffet," said Tankard-Reist. "It suggests they are part of the buffet really – saying “help yourself to the women’s bodies."
The venue, which is located in Sydney’s Circular Quay recently reopened after a 12 month hiatus with new menus and an interior transformation across its three levels.
