The Restaurant Pendolino has announced a new spin-off wine bar, and it’s conveniently located right in front of the iconic Italian eatery inside Sydney’s historic Strand Arcade.
Bottega has been a long-time coming for Owner Nino Zoccali, who has accumulated an extensive collection of Italian wines over the years.
“Wine has always been central at Pendolino,” he says. “We are looking forward to introducing our curated selection to a broader audience in a more laidback and casual format.”
Wines span from Barolo and Amarone to Shiava, Pigato, and indigenous varieties from the Amalfi Coast, with guests able to choose from bottles or take the by-the-glass route, which lists 35-plus options split into sparkling, white, red, minimal intervention, and rose.
“We have travelled extensively in Italy over many years and with our numerous research trips, the wine program has significantly developed and become a major highlight,” says Zoccali.
The bar has its own food menu that’s largely made up of snacks and share plates as well as larger options such as pastas and proteins cooked on the charcoal grill.
Highlights include king prawn and buffalo ricotta rye cocktail sandwiches; Roman cow’s milk cacio e pepe ravioli; wild weed pasta with prawns and calamari; and a 500g Fiorentina di Manzo.
Desserts cover all the Italian classics from house-made gelatos and sorbets as well as affogato and tiramisu ice cream cake.
Bottega is open for lunch Tuesday to Friday from midday and for dinner Monday to Saturday from 5:30pm.
