Mike Eggert and Jemma Whiteman have announced their next move, teaming up with Merivale to open a pop-up venue.
The duo behind Pinbone, which closed its doors on Sunday 13 August, will launch Mr Liquor Dirty Italian Disco in early October, serving up American-style Italian for a six-month stint in what is currently the drive-in bottle shop of The Tennyson Hotel. On offer will be a tightly curated menu featuring bruschetta, pasta and wood-roasted meats.
“It’s warehouse Italian, very New York,” says Eggert. “We’ll be cooking from a big wood-fired oven and grill. It’s going to be fun and fast, simple and delicious”.
Keeping in theme with the original bottle shop experience, guests will be able to buy their own alcohol from the walk-in fridge, before ordering at the counter and dining in the 90-seater drive-way eatery.
“This is unlike anything we’ve done before. We want it to feel like you’re in someone’s garage house party, where you’re eating amazing food and listening to pumping tunes. It’s super casual, super crazy — and all about having a great time”.
Merivale acquired the Tennyson Hotel in December 2016. There are no immediate plans for major refurbishment, with pub continuing to operate as usual.
