Melbourne’s first dedicated Poke store will open on Tuesday 26 July.
Pok (pronounced POH-kay) is a classic Hawaiian dish that combines fresh fish, hot sushi rice and diced vegetables. As a medical student looking for a healthier alternative, Thomas Hu fell in love with the Hawaiian classic after spending time in the US.
The Pokd team will source a wide selection of sustainable fish each day. The fish will be complemented by high quality produce sourced from local and specialist suppliers. The venue will offer both a set menu and build your own options.
Hu has consulted with local and overseas chefs to make sauces and marinades using authentic Japanese ingredients. All sauces are prepared in-house, including the miso matcha dressing, which uses organic powder from Matcha Maiden.
The restaurant plans to promote active lifestyles both locally and abroad. Custom seating designed by architects, One Design Office, promotes good posture and digestion. The Pokd team will also be partnering with social enterprises to help improve access to food overseas with their “Shout a mate” initiative.
To celebrate its opening Pokd will be offering free Pok bowls from 11am to 2pm, and half price Pok bowls all day. For all the Pokmasters out, lures will be dropped on all the Pokestops in the area for the entire week, with three stops in the vicinity of the venue.
Pokd is located on Healey lane at Shop 3, 551 Little Lonsdale Street and will open daily 11am–9pm.
