Neil Perry’s Rockpool Group has teamed up with MAX employment and Mt Druitt TAFE to offer 11 young job seekers employment at the Group’s casual burger joint, The Burger Project.
According to Max Employment’s NSW deputy state manager, Amanda Hreszczuk, The Rockpool Group approached the TAFE, Department of Employment and MAX Employment to hold an information session for candidates looking to step into hospitality.
“We held an information session at the TAFE and put some of our MAX job seekers forward for positions,” says Hreszczuk. “The candidates underwent three weeks of training for food preparation, RSA and RSG licences, and health and safety.”
According to The Rockpool Group’s training and development manager, Tom Skyes, the aim of the program is to introduce young people to the hospitality industry and offer them a career with the company.
“The Hospitality Industry is desperate for good Australian staff, so if we can offer a pathway for people with minimal experience into the industry it will be greatly beneficial. We are also very keen to grow our store managers and senior staff so we can be sure to embed our culture of care, high energy and enthusiasm to all of our stores,” said Skyes.
“Participants start with assembling the burgers, frying chips, preparing drinks and desserts or packing trays and takeaway, and work up to the higher skills of grilling and customer service, then training and supervising.”
