Scott Pickett Group has launched Como Lane, a modern European-inspired café in the grounds of South Yarra’s heritage Como House and Garden.
Constructed in 1847, the heritage property features a mix of Australian Regency and Italianate architecture and is owned and operated by the National Trust of Australia (Victoria).
The café is housed in the estate’s form gardeners’ sheds, surrounded by the picturesque heritage gardens. Drawing on the property’s European character, Como Lane embodies a Parisian style, with indoor seating alongside expansive space for alfresco dining.
“It’s an incredible honour to be opening a venue at Como House & Garden, what is such a unique part of Melbourne’s history and a cornerstone to the local South Yarra community,” says chef and restaurateur Scott Pickett.
Como Lane is Scott Pickett Group’s first full-service café. The group is also responsible for restaurants Chancery Lane, Estelle, Longrain, Matilda, Smith St Bistrot, Pickett’s Deli & Rotisserie, and Audrey’s. It also runs catering through SP Events.
“I’m excited to try something different. Our offering will be quality-driven while also welcoming. At the end of the day, it’s a cafe all about good food and community, says Pickett.
The cafe has an all day offering that draws inspiration from some of Pickett’s signature dishes and high-quality fresh produce from local producers and the estate’s own garden are menu fundamentals.
Breakfast highlights include buttermilk pancakes with stone fruit, whipped crème fraiche, and lemon myrtle; chilli scrambled eggs with Longrain’s signature XO sauce; and a breakfast bowl with soft boiled egg, cured salmon, avocado, pickles, seasonal greens, and quinoa. For lunch, options that work for both dine in and takeaway take precedence, including fresh and toasted sandwiches and salads. A kids’ menu is also available.
The venue is an extension of a successful partnership between the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Pickett’s group. It will work collaboratively with Como House & Garden on its events program and will host flower workshops and high teas throughout the year.
“We’re thrilled to have Scott Pickett and his team bringing their expertise in hospitality and storytelling through food at Como Lane in what will be a charming cafe and an extension of the rich heritage of Como House & Garden,” says CEO of the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) Collette Brennan.
