Leading national vocational education and training provider Allara Learning have made it even easier to train your team, creating a library of online courses designed specifically for Australian hospitality businesses.
The move comes in response to industry demand. Allara Learning has been providing nationally recognised qualifications to hospitality professionals across Australia for 10 years and has noticed an uptake in hospitality businesses adopting online training as a part of their training repertoire.
According to Allara Learning, the move to digital education makes complete sense, offering a number of benefits from consistency and scalability to cost saving and flexibility.
An online central repository of training material ensures a consistent learning experience, from one day to the next and from one venue to the next, while an online Learning Management System can easily scale to accommodate growth, such as the influx of seasonal workers or the opening of a new venue, and help administration or HR staff track training with consistent reports. Providing online platforms also means training can be scheduled around employees’ work commitments, allowing students to work at their pace.
To capitalise on these advantages Allara Learning offers two types of courses: skill training videos and interactive courses.
Hospitality juggernaut Merivale has already taken advantage of the former, working with Allara Learning to produce a library of practical ‘how to’ micro training videos. The bite-sized videos cover topics such as bar skills, table service and cellar operations, showing staff best practice techniques and highlighting how to avoid common injuries in the workplace.
“Partnering with Allara Learning to develop an E-Learning platform has enabled Merivale to deliver engaging training to our team who work in 80+ bars, restaurants, hotels and event spaces across Sydney,” comments Ashlee Campbell, head of People Operations, Merivale.
The range of interactive courses available is extensive, reminding staff of their legal obligations and on-boarding new team members using fun and engaging formats. Courses include: Work health & safety; Manual handling; Harassment & discrimination; Workplace bullying; Privacy in the workplace; Armed robbery awareness; RSA recap; RCG recap; Food safety and hygiene; Customer service 101; Transport and store food; Food allergy awareness for FOH; Diversity in the workplace; and R U OK?™.
Allara Learning’s Learning & Development team recently rose to the challenge of combining all these capabilities in one package, working with casual dining concept Suki to create a welcome video and develop a series of custom-built interactive courses and videos tailored to the business’s unique processes and food offering.
