One Day Wine School, an educational event designed specifically for Australian sommeliers and trade will be returning for its fourth year in March and April.
The event is targeted towards wine professionals who have a sound foundation of the basics, and are looking to learn more about the history, evolution and revolution of Australian wine, its regions and its unique terroirs.
The event is hosted by wine educator Aaron Brasher and includes a structured exploration of the climate, micro-climate and geology of the regions, wine production, and the current state of the sector. There will also be over 20 wines featured in themed tastings, and a guest presenter who will help lead discussions. Past guest presenters have included Kim Bickley (Fine Wine Partners), Tom Hogan (Harry & Frankie) and Philip Rich (Prince Wine Store).
Participants can opt to participate in a multiple choice exam as well as a blind tasting at the end of the session. The top seven participants from all sessions combined will win a place on the Wine Australia Trade Immersion Program (TIP) trip in June, which involves travelling for eight days through wine regions Langhorne Creek, Mount Benson, Coonawarra, King Valley and Yarra Valley.
“Australian wine quality is exceptional and we have a diverse offering, so our biggest challenge is to bring this richness of styles to people’s attention. We have 65 wine regions and each region has its own unique terroir, wine style and character,” says Wine Australia’s general manager of marketing Stuart Barclay.
“We need to keep telling the regional stories of the fine wines being made in their own backyard, and help educate Australian wine trade on our history, the evolution of traditional varieties, and the innovations in our winemaking techniques.”
The events will take place in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane throughout March and April.
