Sustainability Victoria has launched the Love Food Hate Waste Business pilot program to provide practical support for Victorian foodservice businesses.
The three-month program is available to all Victorian hospitality businesses (regional and metro) and will provide food waste tracking tools, action plans and online support to identify where food waste is occurring within a business.
In a study commissioned by Sustainability Victoria, 50 per cent of respondents said financial and environmental factors were motivators for change.
“We know that our state’s hospitality businesses want to minimise food waste to reduce both its financial and environmental impacts,” says The Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio, Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change. “This accessible, practical program will help them send less waste to landfill and reduce their operating costs.”
Brae’s Dan Hunter has also thrown his support behind the initiative, and says food waste is one of the most pressing concerns for the industry. “We’ve worked for many years at Brae to fine tune our sustainability practices, but this program delivers easily implementable tools to help all venues find new ways to reduce waste and make a positive change,” says Hunter.
