The Australian Hotels Association (WA) has once again wrapped up its annual Best Steak Sandwich competition, with both metro and country winners announced.
The Harbour Master (Esplanade Hotel Fremantle) claimed AHA’s Best Perth Steak Sandwich, while Tall Timbers in Manjimup won the Best Country title.
This year’s judging panel included Channel Seven and Today Tonight senior reporter, Graeme Butler (Perth competition only); Rob Gough, owner of Settlers Tavern and AHA (WA) divisional president (country competition only); Lion’s craft beer ambassador, Steven Blaine, HiscoNFE’s chief financial officer, Brett Thompson; and AHA (WA) CEO, Bradley Woods.
“The public response to the competition has again been overwhelming; Western Australians are certainly passionate about their steak sandwiches and enjoy being involved in a democratic voting process,” Woods said.
“The steak sandwich brings together everything that is great about WA venues and pubs, from the home-style cooking to locally grown WA produce.”
Finalists in the Perth competition were:
- The Harbour Master (Esplanade Hotel Fremantle)
- CY O’Connor Village Pub
- Karalee on Preston
- The Mundaring Hotel
- The Merrywell (last year’s winner)
Finalists in the Country competition were:
- Endeavour Tavern
- Cervantes Bar & Bistro
- Vicotria Hotel
- Matso’s Broome Brewery
- Tall Timbers
The five Perth finalists faced each other at a cook-off at the AHA Hospitality Expo on Wednesday 11 May at Crown Perth, and the country finalists competed one day earlier.
