The Time Out Sydney Food Awards were held on 26 September, with Restaurant Hubert taking out the top gong.

It's been a big year for the Restaurant Hubert team, with the French diner (which launched in April) also being named Best New Restaurant and earning two hats in this year's SMH Good Food Guide, as well as Best New Restaurant at the recent Gourmet Traveller awards.

Held at Merivale’s est., the Time Out Sydney Food Awards recognise some of the city’s most innovative and exciting foodservice concepts. This year saw the addition of a number of new categories, including a one-off award for Sydney’s Best Sweet Treat, as well as a commendation for Drinks Service. There were also three new People’s Choice awards: Best Takeaway Coffee, Best Takeaway Lunch Spot and Best Late-Night Snack Vendor. 

This year’s winners are:

  • Restaurant of the Year: Hubert
  • Chef of the Year: Clayton Wells of Automata
  • Hot Talent Award, sponsored by Hospitality magazine: Troy Crisante of Bennelong
  • Best Cheap Eat: Trunk Road
  • Best Casual Dining Restaurant: Hubert
  • Best Fine Dining Restaurant: Momofuku Seiobo
  • Best Sweet Treat Award: Black Star Pastry
  • Best Caf: Ora 
  • People’s Choice Award: Best Restaurant: nel. Restaurant (for the second year in a row)
  • People’s Choice: Best Takeaway Lunch: About Life
  • People’s Choice: Best Takeaway Coffee: Single O
  • People’s Choice: Best Late-night Snack Vendor: Frankie's Pizza by the Slice
  • Drinks Service Award: Continental Deli Bar Bistro
  • The Time Out Legend Award: Brent Savage and sommelier Nick Hildebrandt of Yellow, Bentley, Monopole and most recently, Cirrus at Barangaroo.
